| Science in our school involves students
from Year 1 to Year 8 investigating the living, physical, material, and
technological components of their environment and making sense of them
in logical and creative ways.
We believe that learning in science is fundamental
to our students developing an increased understanding of the world in which
we all live. Our teachers assist students to clarify ideas, ask questions,
test explanations through measurement and observation, and to establish
the worth of an idea.
At our school the inclusion of Maori knowledge
about the natural and physical worlds enriches science for all students.
By acknowledging tikanga Maori and valuing the use of Maori language, we
both affirm the identity of our Maori students and create a positive learning
environment.
Our school and classroom programmes are
responsive to all students; they identify and nurture students with both
special needs and abilities in science.
Science and technology are
major influences in many aspects of our daily lives. Our involvement in
the Neighbourhood Engineers Programme ensures that learning can also be
advanced through study of the development of scientific ideas or concepts
within our own community.
