Music
Musical talent is celebrated and nurtured at Flaxmere Primary School.  Teachers meet the challenge of delivering a balanced music education programme to all children.

Music is an important part of every classroom programme.  All children are involved in the active, creative processes of making and listening to music.

Instruction is available in a well equipped music suite.  Children are tutored in rhythm, bass and acoustic guitar, ukulele, keyboard or drums.

During Term 3, 1999, 150 middle and senior school children took part in a major musical production entitled “RATS”, based on the story of the Piped Piper.  This was the first production for many years and was such a success that it has become an annual event.  There were 6 performances over four days, and at least 1600 children from nearby schools attended the show, as well as a great number of adults.

We were privileged to have the Mayor of Hastings attend a performance and we received a wonderful letter from him afterwards.  He stated “What a magnificent and inspired evening I was able to enjoy. In every respect I was stunned by what I saw.”

The next year our junior children performed an adapted musical version of 'The Little Red Hen'  which was again a resounding success, the main performers being so young and yet so talented.  The rest of the  junior school was involved as costumed chorus singers.

In 2001 our seniors surpassed expectations to bring us a hugely funny pantomine type of show based on the Cinderella story set in the 1960's.  Everyone enjoyed the songs we included from that era.

2002 promises to be as rewarding, with our juniors taking part in a show about garden gnomes.
