Our school has a full time Learning Assistance Teacher who provides a wide variety of programmes to cater for the individual learning needs of the children and ensures every child has the opportunity to experience success and develop good self esteem.
The objective of these programmes is to develop independence and a positive attitude toward learning.
These programmes have been developed with the assistance of a psychologist, who works one day a week in the school to support children with learning and behavioural difficulties. He also works with teacher, teacher aides and parents, developing strategies to improve learning and modify behaviour.
There are 15 teacher aides working in our school supporting main-streamed children and supporting teachers with the class programme to ensure every child achieves tasks.
Our main-streamed children have special programmes developed to cater for their needs by a teacher employed for this purpose.
They also go to Riding For the Disabled every fortnight.
When a child’s needs fall into a category outside the school structure we apply for extra support from the R.T.L.B. Team. At present we have 5 children receiving their support.
Some of our children also receive extra activities from the Correspondence School to cater for their specific learning needs.
