ENGLISH

Here at Flaxmere School we pride ourselves on having a team of people who work together to initiate the written, oral and visual language components of the English Curriculum.  They construct these into professional development courses for the entire staff before the beginning of each term.  We focus on one genre, such as Narratives and we use it for a whole term, to give our students the benefit of plenty of opportunities to experiment and improve their work in all language areas. We give positive feedback regularly in one-to-one conferencing situations to discuss the students' work.

We work with the students' needs, by assessing what the student knows about a specific genre and then developing the students' knowledge throughout the term.  We compare what they have learned with what they knew at the beginning of the term.  The students feel pride at what they are able to achieve by the end of the term when they do this comparison and assess themselves by what they’ve learned.
