Our Mission:

Flaxmere Primary School is a U5 full primary school, situated in the Flaxmere suburb of Hastings. The school’s ethnic composition is essentially Maori, with a small number of European and Pacific Island children. There is a high roll turnover which is consistent with the socio-economic nature of this Flaxmere suburb.
Flaxmere is an outstanding primary school...so the Education Review Office
says...and it goes on to say... We say...an effective school is about expectation! Flaxmere School is a learning place for people – children, teachers, parents and others who use the facility. The school promotes a tolerance and respect for individuals in all areas of management, professional development and learning, and encourages consultation and dialogue as an important process of change. The staff are progressive, responsive and totally committed to their professional roles. They reflect a wide range of experience which facilitates the flexibility of the school organisation and the diversified learning needs of children. We also emphasise that children and teachers are happy, learn and feel good about their school. We have 20 virtues that we have identified and practise throughout the school day. These virtues form the basis of our school behaviour plan. We are endeavouring to lead everyone towards independence and we are taking away the 'control and rule' mentality. Children should do things because they know they are right and good, not because someone is watching! Flaxmere School is an extremely well resourced school offering 3 levels of education. · Mainstream · Bi-lingual · Immersion (Maori) The physical variety of teaching spaces gives the school an excellent flexibility to provide for the differing learning needs and teaching styles. The children are warm, friendly, outgoing and extremely competitive. Flaxmere School is a vibrant learning community. Beverley Blake (Principal) |
